The theme of Women in Construction Week 2022 is "Envision Equity"

As we are all well aware by now, women make up a small fraction of the construction industry compared to their male counterparts. Lots can still be done to help close the gender gap and build more awareness around the amazing career opportunities in our industry. There is definitely momentum to support and hire women in construction, but many are still looking for ways to move the needle a bit faster. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this important topic! Take a minute to reply to our discussion topic and let other members know about the strides that your organization is taking to help women thrive. How have you seen things change for the better for women in the industry? What do you think needs to be done to attract more women to the industry? Do you have any inspiring stories of women advancing in construction? What are your personal successes or perceptions as it relates to this important topic?

I think the support the industry has given towards women is amazing. Has come such Long way. [Image 1] We just recently had a lunch for all of our female field workers.

I think we need to take the time to really encourage young women to try their hand at construction. For so many years it has been thought of has a man's line of work. More women in construction would be amazing.

I notice the change in the curriculum at schools - beginning with High School - more girls are taking welding classes - in college part of the agriculture have welding courses. In construction more women are attending the subtech roles and in the project management role.

I think it all starts at inspiring young people while they are still in school. Let them know there is a strong value in going into the trades regardless of sex.

There has been much progress in our company with Women in construction. I have found that with a younger generation headed into leadership we have more of a voice and have someone who wants to advocate for us.

What do you think needs to be done to attract more women to the industry? I think to attract more women to the industry we need to keep highlighting them! Whether they be field or office personnel we are all still part of the industry and play a vital role.

It has been awesome to work at a company that has so many amazing women, where everyone is encouraged to have a voice, engage in the culture, and take a seat at the table. Awareness about the low number of women in the field is an important first step, but I think it would be helpful to have more specific information about why more women might not be choosing a career in the trades, and what can be done to help foster those interests.

Working for a woman owned business I think helps to attract women to apply in the field. I have seen in the past mistreatment in the construction industry hindering women from wanting to apply to different companies. It has been changing over the years and more women are getting their foot in the door.

I have noticed more and more, not within my company, but other companies I deal with on a day to day basis, like other Subcontractors or General Contractors, I see more women in the Project Management field and I think that is wonderful. I'd love to learn that position!
