There's Never Been a Better Time to Celebrate Women in Construction

With an extreme lack of skilled workers in the construction industry, there's never been a more important time to build a diverse and inclusive workforce. In this For Construction Pros article, they list some things that could change the way women feel about careers in construction and attract them to our great industry. What are your thoughts? Is there anything you would add to their list?

I mentioned in another activity that I believe both men and women are seeing that they can have a successful livelihood entering a construction trade. A paid apprenticeship with benefits vs. a large college loan for a field you may not even get into, may look appealing to many.

All the things on the list are good. I think that all the ladies that work out in the field are awesome but the ladies who support them in the office are just as important!

I think starting in school to educate women on all the areas there are in the construction industry would be a really good place to start.

Timing is perfect since we expect a large amount of the current construction workforce to retire in the next 5-10 years

We need to start early with depicting women in the construction field (all fields really) in life, books, media, etc. We need to start early letting women know the opportunities of trade the same way we do with boys and young men.

I think that getting high school girls into a vocational school to find a trade they enjoy would be very helpful, plus it would give them a jump start!

Definitely with the lack of skilled workers available, now is a great time to make a career switch or to start learning a trade. It would be excellent to see more females fill in these positions.

I love seeing women in construction. The 10.9% of women in construction will hopefully be on the rise. They need to make money too for themselves and their families

I think now is a great time to get into the construction field. A high demand for jobs means a high chance for opportunity. I think that the Construction Industry as a whole is changing and its workers should change with it.

I would say that not only does the Construction Industry need more talented women in the field, but to further have more women in Executive seats, offering ideas and new ways of thinking in an old industry with little change.
