Women in Construction Paving the Way

On Tuesday, March 22nd we had a live conversation with a panel of talented women where they share their personal journey of overcoming barriers, how they've seen the industry change, and what leadership opportunities look like for women in construction today. Here is a link to the webinar recording and below find a sampling of some of the great advice that was shared during this webcast. Be sure to listen to the recording to hear more amazing tips! Take a moment to reply with your own advice! "Be assertive, don't be afraid to speak up, try not to people please, learn to say no." "Ask your coworkers more about what they do and how you can help them be successful. You'll learn more about your company/industry and you'll gain a teammate" "Build those critical relationships so you get buy-in and support, and pick your battles. Your outcomes do speak for you!" "I believe in always learning and growing which sometimes is not comfortable, but you need to be uncomfortable to grow."

Great webinar. I think women are certainly an under-utilized asset in the construction industry.

I'm fortunate that I work for a company that encourages diversity and has women in a variety of roles, from the union employees to project operations to administrative positions. Including women in construction benefits everyone, especially with the ongoing field labor challenges.

Be yourself. Stop apologizing for everything you say. Believe you matter.

Even in the few years I've been at my company, I've definitely see the role of women increasing. I definitely think technology is playing a big role in this, too. It allows a sort of foot in the door to an industry mired in preconceived notions. And once that foot is in the door, it is a whole lot easier for women to take the next step, the one after that, and so on.
